The President of Minia University Prof. Dr. Essam Farhat, participated via video conference in an emergency meeting of the Supreme Council of Universities, chaired by Dr. AbdelAziz Qonsowa, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research. The meeting focused on
discussing mechanisms to implement presidential directives aimed at aligning university academic programs with the needs of the labor market at the local, regional, and international levels, in line with the rapidly evolving global higher education landscape.
The meeting was held at the Ministry of Higher Education headquarters in the New Administrative Capital, with the attendance of several university presidents and leaders of the educational system, Dr. Mostafa Refaat, Secretary of the Supreme Council of Universities;
Dr. Abdelwahab Ezzat, Secretary of the Council of Private Universities; Dr. Maher Mesbah, Secretary of the Council of National Universities, and the ministry’s media advisor and official spokesperson. Other university presidents and council members joined via video conference.
During the meeting, the Minister expressed his gratitude to President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, praising the political leadership’s ongoing commitment to developing higher education in
Egypt and keeping pace with global advancements in this vital sector. He emphasized that the presidential directives reflect the state’s dedication to enhancing the quality of university graduates and developing their skills and competencies across various disciplines, enabling them to compete in labor markets locally, regionally, and internationally, while keeping up with rapid
changes in employment trends.
The Minister also stated the need to prepare a comprehensive study mapping labor market needs at the local, regional, and global levels, in cooperation with relevant stakeholders. The
goal is to identify the requirements of productive and service sectors and link them to academic programs and specializations within Egyptian universities, thereby strengthening the integration between higher education outcomes and development needs.
